No, I totally understand what he was trying to go with the show ...as in them being real characters in this world, in there own right. What a vague and genius endeavor!
There's a deeper story to what you see.
According to Penn....
The Land of Ooo is actually earth, a post apologetic world. That's why you see abandoned cities, old war heads, frozen treasures, etc.
After a huge Armageddon war against humans and monster mushrooms...the world now retains new forms of life. Half human, half candy people, or cloud, or whatever.
Magic was rediscovered.
And apparently Marceline the Vampire Queen lived before Ooo existed.
There's going to be more story development as the seasons progress.
You might know why Finn is the ONLY human in this world, and why he still wears his baby hat.
wow I need to go watch more. I watched like 4 episodes.
I would SO ride that as my steed.
