I hope Mindchamber gets permission to make Stick Slayer 9.
I became a huge fan of the series, during the time it came out the internet was flooded with awful stick animations. So in a way Ben brought morbid joy to my adolescence. Ben Spurgin you will be missed.
I really appreciated Ben 'sticking' it to the 'sticks'
I really liked Spurgin's cartoons a lot. He helped make NG into what it is today along with Mindchamber, Tom, Wade, Dan Paladin, Luis, Em Kaah (check out Goldilocks when you get the chance), McFretn (Combat Instinct), Clark Lybek, Randy Solem, Septimus, Doomhammr, Dom Price, and many others. In other words, he wasn't just one of us; he was THE BEST of us.
He was good.
He'll live on in his frankly awesome Flash. A damn fine artist in sheer 'wtf that was wicked'-ness.
Just remember though Newgrounders; Winners Don't Use Drugs.
Yeah...I was just thinking that too....
Sorry to start with a short rant but:
I personally don't think series like Joe Zombie or Castle would have the same feel with full-bodied characters as they do now with sticks. They would be different, but somehow I don't think they would be better. Stick Slayer was a series that had to be a great combination of both, though, because otherwise the concept wouldn't make sense.
*rant end*
I agree with you about the last episode, though... about how it's metaphoric to his death. The statue of the Stick Slayer representing his sacrifice to save humanity is like the feeling of loss when we watch the movie itself.
I remember watching the Stick Slayer series a long time ago, because... well, I liked stick movies, Xiao Xiao in particular. The Xiao Xiao vs. Stick Slayer spinoffs were what led me to the series. Looking back on it now, it wasn't nearly as graphically impressive as other movies, but the cinematic and creative humorous flair is what made the series great, and what makes it still great now.
The last thing I remember about Ben was the news post he made on the frontpage ages ago about his Newgrounds-related conversation with a girl, how he said he practically made Newgrounds and she had never heard of Stick Slayer or Pimp's Quest before. Then when he mentioned Retarded Animal Babies, he had to mention that wasn't one of the movies he'd made.
Ben will be missed :(
Ben Be Missed....
He,Was an amasing artist,Sadly,None of us we ever see him again. It is a sad thing in life and its very hard to simply get over it.I know what it is like to lose somebody,And even though they have died in 2005 I still cry to even remember them.He was creative and artistic. He has inspired many artists.
RIP Ben

Poor guy he was a very creative dude.
Before all of us a platter lay
for decisions may not or decisions may
Though decisions may, may keep death at bay
decisions may not is what fuel this pleasure RAY
But pain is all that it brings
though to decisions may not is were are heart clings
If we are not too blinded we may feel the sounding rings
And may avoid the moment when death sings.
Sorry for speaking in riddles, but this is the best way I convey how I feel about what happened to him.
It's a good way. Much appreciated Beast Boy.
