I have one but that's not for listening to music... it's a newer record player with USB connectivity for converting the records to digital audio. My parents have a large collection of records and I've converted the ones that interest me. If I was in your position I wouldn't buy a record player which fulfills no real purpose but being a conversation piece. Did you not get the soundtrack in any other format?

As for the percieved "better quality" of the LPs that some people freak out about... I think you'll really have to be born in the age of vinyl records to appreciate the difference. I feel it's a much more physical experience to hold and play back a big piece of vinyl, and for some people it might bring a pleasant nostalgia. But in the long run, I think it's not worth it. I'd choose a digital CD or good quality mp3 (not less than 192kbps though) anyday.

Record players are out of date, very retro themed technology. I know that a few electronic appliance like Pioneer make modern record players, but as far as I know I don't think anyone makes the disks anymore. So obtaining a collection of old Elvis disks would be a chore, as well as expensive.

In the end it comes down to three questions I use frequently in my life.
"Do I need it?"
"Will I use it often?"
"Is this the best deal or price?"

I have a really old one, which is broke, but still, although I wouldn't say it sounds "better" than a CD, it sounds different. I personally prefer LP, just looks cooler, and I like the sound better, but, whatever floats you boat.
