Hula dancing is by far the most important thing in Hawaiian culture. For ancient Hawaiians do not have a written language system. So in order to tell stories, histories, or events...many epic events were expressed through dance and chanting.
Today...many of you mainlanders may have a different interpretation of Hula. Spongebob or whatever. Point is...your WRONG!
Hula is very spiritual and extremely important to Hawaii's culture.
Each dance gesture represents the telling of a story.
And.....once a year....a competition of Hula is held. The Mary Monarch festival.
5 straight hours of Hula.
Something everyone who lives here should watch at least once in their life time from start to finish.
It may seem boring at first, but give it 10 minutes. Your soul almost feels enchanted and at peace!
